The Maps of Fredericksburg

For avid readers of Civil War academia, the name Bradley M. Gottfried is synonymous with his atlases of battle. Join the Civil War Round Table of Fredericksburg as we hear from the author of "The Maps of Fredericksburg", yet another entry into his fine collection of atlases that continues to aid readers into an understanding of the Civil War.

Experience the battle of Fredericksburg through Dr. Gottfried's presentation and maps. Learn about the movement of McClellan before Lincoln makes a change in command, army movements when Burnside takes command, the opening shots, the movement through the town of Fredericksburg, and the many waves of attacks that were delivered upon Marye's Heights. His descriptions of the Confederate movement even details Stuart's ride around McClellan's force.

Much Dr. Gottfried's early writings were about the Gettysburg Campaign. He also wrote two brigade-level histories to honor the units/men who hailed from his new homes. Finally, he developed an interest in telling the history of the Eastern Theater of the Civil War in maps. He has authored Stopping Pickett: The History of the Philadelphia Brigade, Brigades of Gettysburg, Kearny's Own: The History of the First New Jersey Brigade, and many others. Most notably is his atlas series which is comprised of The Maps of First Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station/ Mine Run, and The Wilderness. Dr. Gottfried is also a board member of the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust.

Dr. Bradley M. Gottfried was born and raised in Philadelphia and developed an interest in the Civil War at a young age. When he went to college he left behind his interest in history and it was not reignited until returning to Philadelphia 25 years later. In between, Dr. Gottfried continued his education, earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from Miami University and worked in higher education for the better part of forty years. In that time he was president of Sussex County Community College New Jersey and the College of Southern Maryland. He and his wife Linda live in Gettysburg, PA. They have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
